M'sian as well.

Those folders are exactly like mine, maybe have reach around 30 folders now. I never counted.

Not sure why I kept them since I only re-watch very few series (Nanoha and Gunslinger Girls among them). The 'feeling' to collect/archive these things are just there, I guess.

The modern otaku should have a tower server case with several 1TB harddisks that can be accessed from a local wireless network. The living room, dining room and leisure areas should have at least a PC with a 30" monitor or a netbook that feeds to a HD projector.

That'd be oh so sweet.

Why am I keeping my anime? I only keep anime that are interesting to me. Whenever I feel I need to watch any certain episode, or even a whole series, I can just pull it out from my library and play it. Sometimes I need to watch a certain scene from a certain episode, for reference purposes and such. Plus, I use anime to remember items that I study, so I just play the scenes to do revision study. For the DVDs/CDs/videotapes that I bought, it's a testimony to my dedication and support of the anime industry, and I plan to buy alot more, not the ones in the local stores though.... except if they are of extremely high quality.

How do I store my anime? Albums of DVDs/CDs (like the picture in the blog post... looks alot like the first version of my anime library @_@), and the really old ones are in videotapes (need to copy these out into newer formats, them rotting already >_<). HDDs for those not burned yet. The ones I bought, I just store them in their own casings. I have a secret desire to finish up a NAS server, so I can store anime on my home theater LAN, and have the flexibility to choose any anime episode and play them anytime on my LCD TV.

I store all my anime on external drives. I buy two drives (of the same size) and two enclosures for those drives every time my current two run out of space. Each new series downloaded is then copied to both of the drives currently in use, so if one fails, I still have all the shows on that one backed up on a second drive.

I also keep a catalogue of sorts, a text file, that says which drives any given show is on.

It's somewhere around 2.5 terabytes of harddrive space in total right now.

I used to burn every anime I watched on CD or DVD, but yes, some of them did rot after a while. Recently I bought an external HD and have been saving my anime on that. I'm kind of obsessed about saving every anime I download even if I don't think I'll ever want to watch it again. But I think once my HD gets filled up, I'll have to start deleting my least favorite ones...unless I can afford to buy another HD.

@karry

Lol. It seems like my friend haven't experienced that so far. Seems like he needs to worry about that now... other than some random freak EMP accident. Oh well, rich people are rich I guess. Last time I checked, he totaled 4TB of data.

I think portable HDDs would solve the energy problem. It costs more than normal HDD though :(

But again, why am I keeping my animes again?

"I can’t afford to keep everything in my HDD so like most other that I know who stores their anime, I burn them out into optical medias."

Except DVDs are more expensive per gigabyte than HDDs today. I would use HDDs too, except i'd have to do a total upgrade to support SATAII...this sucks...

"Yep, they keep terabytes of data in their PC. I knew one guy who bought a tall server type casing so he can fit in a lot of HDD."

Thats just bloody stupid. First, because its energy inefficient, therefore you waste resources and your bills are larger over time. Second, power supply COULD potentially fry and take a few things to the grave with him, including some HDDs. It can happen, in fact it happened once on my very eyes. I was at a friend, and his power supply gave in, created a large power spike, and took EVERYTHING IN HIS PC out. Nothing survived. Not even monitor.
