Now that all the seven Kara no Kyoukai films have ended, it seems that there’s a recurring theme. As we know, Kara no Kyoukai involves a lot of slashing of limbs (other Type-Moon works aren’t this severe), and the most common limb to go is apparently the left arm. Let me show you what I mean.

Case 1: Ryougi Shiki

Who needs two hands to eat ice cream?

The lead character herself has a prosthetic left arm, one that can grab spirits and can also house a hidden throwing knife. Shiki lost her left arm against Fujino who twisted it off in a direct stand-off. The bloody mess was then tightly bound to prevent blood loss before Shiki killed it herself to prevent any further infections.

To escape the handcuffs put on her in final chapter, Shiki decided to bite off the prosthetic left thumb. I don’t understand why she did that. The arm should have some kind of detaching mechanism to avoid situations like that. Maybe Touko didn’t think too far ahead when she made them, lol.

Case 2: Enjou Tomoe

What if Tomoe was left-handed? Would he still be able to stab Araya?

This guy is a sad case whose entire body was rotting away. Curiously, his left arm was the one that literally dropped off first, before one of his legs. Of course, Araya then quickly disposed of him in a one-hit kill.

Case 3: Shirazumi Lio

I love this scene. I'm not sure why.

Druglord and bloodthristy nutcase Lio wanted Shiki so much he even styled his hair and dressing to match hers. Unfortunately, at the threat of killing Mikiya, Shiki instantly chopped off – yep, his left arm. It resulted in a rather magnificent bloodspray at first but it healed extremely fast for some reason. Maybe it was the drugs or something.

Case 4: Kouhei the Karaoke Boy

Poor bastard. You sure got what you deserve.

This was one of the guys who raped Fujino in episode 3. Fujino was on a rampage, killing everyone who gangbang-ed her prior to the episode. As for Kouhei, he was brought into a quiet container dock for Fujino to twist him to death and the first limb she twisted off was his left arm.

I think that pretty much covered all the occurrences of this theme in the series. Does anyone else notice this?

On a related, note, how about some techno-remix of the Kara no Kyoukai main theme? It was featured in the Playstation 2 port of Melty Blood Actress Again, where Ryougi Shiki appears as a playable character and she comes with her own stage; the Ryougi estate bamboo grove.

Pretty sweet combos, though they can be somewhat tricky to pull off. I can only do the most basic BnB stuff, haha. You can grab the remix here: Download

…Hey ! I didn’t notice this at all ! Nice find there Silencers ! Yeah, Kouhei got what he deserved, but probably should have twisted his balls first imo heh.

Hmm, the techno song is not bad, but definitely love the original more.

Sadly they seem to use it less as the series progress. I was waiting for it to come out in the final episode, but it come out in a slow and dramatic ver. rather than the fast and exciting ver., which was quite disappointing.
