Malaysian otakus do rant!
’Ochans’, the team of carbon-based bipeds who keep the site updated with streams of texts that might not make any sense at times. Here are the Ochans:
Edo
Hmm… I’m Edo, the creator of ‘Ocha!’ and the one who’s responsible for giving this site a lame name. I got the passion for anime and Japanese culture since high school but wasn’t passionate enough to actually go for the ‘Japanese Language Proficiency Test’ which would give me the ability to watch anime RAWs.
I started this project because I dreamt of a platform where I could rant about the things that I like/dislike. Oh, and of course, the “holy” mission to spread the anime love to all…
Currently studying in Multimedia University, Malaysia doing some 1337 IT stuff. Will pursue the stressful animation course in Japan after I’m done with this IT stuff. Dreaming of piloting a mecha in the future, hopefully an ARX-7 Arbalest.
Experience in the ACG field? Not much. For a short time, I was a fansubber back in 2001. When I entered university in 2004, I joined EMiNA Japanese Animation Club ( an army of otaku/otaku-wannabes in campus ). In 2006, I took over club’s presidency and became the President till 2008. A proud member of ‘The GACC Committee’, the organizers of Games Anime Comic Circle ( GACC ) – the only event in South East Asia which featured a Japanese seiyuu’s appearance. Also an organizing committee of Comic Fiesta – the biggest ACG community based event in Malaysia. And hours of lifeless anime marathons in front of the computer.
Most of the time will write anime reviews and opinion in Ocha! And at times, will note on interesting matters concerning the Japanese visual culture industry.
I like music and worship Maaya Sakamoto and Yoko Kanno. Nuts over ‘My Neighbor Totoro’ and few other Ghibli works. A sucker for mecha anime. A certified lolicon. Likes to self-torture by watching globally accepted horrible anime.
NaviX
NaviX, one of Ocha!’s foundation member. Will write more about himself when he’s free (and not so lazy). Hates Macross Frontier a lot (NaviX: not really, I just find it not up to par with my expectations), and he thinks he’s a Newtype (this would be cool).
HolyCow
HolyCow (aka the ‘Divine Bovine’) was invited to join this blog as one of the founding members. He is currently a student of MMU Malacca and a member of EMiNA. He was also involved in GACC 08.
If you’ve ever heard of the Japanese light novel translation site Baka-Tsuki, HolyCow is ever proud to admit that that’s where he hailed from ^^ A seasoned translator for Baka-Tsuki, he still occasionally translate light novels for them when he has the free time (read: not being lazy). He’ll mostly be blogging about light novels, because:
1- They’re an awesome media in their own right.
2- They’re the source of some of the most awesome anime in recent time. Suzumiya Haruhi, Full Metal Panic and Baccano! come to mind.
3- They’re his favourite media (compared to anime and manga)
4- They’re not as widely known as anime and manga!
HolyCow is also a rabid fan of Yandere and anything psycho. Ryugu Rena is his goddess, and Battle Royale his bible. He has an unnerving liking for little psychotic girls that go round chasing each other with weapons and chopping each other up. He hopes meet his end one day at the hands of a Nevada-tan, armed with a boxcutter. His dream is to go to the moon to meet a psychotic lunar bunny (preferably Reisen Udongein Inaba), and eventually be saved by Eirin before they run amok.
HolyCow is also a writer for OtakuZone, a local newspaper’s anime section. Even so, his writing is quite lame compared to others, as evident by this post (…no wait, who’s writing this post again?). He hopes that readers will be able to forgive him if he makes any mistakes, as he has made his fair share of mistakes in the past (especially on Baka-Tsuki), most notable equaling “a bowl of hot oden” to “a dagger” and “ice cream” for “poison”.
A weird and potentially dangerous guy, stay away at all cost.
Miso-soup
Miso-soup, another foundation member of Ocha! Obsessed over Lucky Star, and HolyCow.
Uh… No. Not obsessed over Lucky Star. At least not now.
Hey there. Was invited to join this anime blog, and to be frank, I kinda like the idea of this. Will be writing about recent animes and mangas, as well as some other random stuffs (don’t worry, I won’t treat this as my personal blog). Sad to say, I don’t have much experience, so I welcome all sorta comments.
Currently studying in MMU, Melaka. Involved in SPB and EMiNA, ONLY. I’m a law student here, but I don’t care shit about law. I just want my animes and mangas.
That’s all… for now.
Ashlynne
Hey there…
I can’t say that I’m a really dedicated anime/ japanese visual culture fan. Let’s face it, I haven’t been watching/tracking a lot of anime or manga or any visual culture stuff.
Well, for me to watch an anime and continue tracking it, it has to have a certain “something” that captures my attention. Be it
- plot (Black Lagoon, Code Geass)
- ridiculously out of this world storyline (like Toshokan Sensou - hello? library armed conflict?!)
- something that touches my heart (Aria, Honey and Clover)
- something that makes me think or ponder upon (Code Geass, xxxHolic)
- or humour (Ouran FTW!!!)
- and many other elements that manage to capture my attention.
BUT not all types of humour interest me. Titles like Hayate no Gotoku, Seto no Hanayome, and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - well, sorry to say I just can’t find the humour in it…
Mmm… I suck at describing myself. Perhaps that’s all =)
BTW, I love edo to bits XD
Silencers
Hullo,
I syok sendiri join Ocha! because I can, and because Edo willingly leaked the out the secret access codes to me. *hides Geass*
Anyway, I helped out with Ocha’s fansubbing project as TLC and distro support for ToshoSensou, and will be using this project to learn the curves of the fansubbing scene and from that knowledge, create a high-profit-margin business model upon my graduation for personal wealth and private military funding. [Liek, srsly.]
I love mah animu. Not enough to call myself a weaboo but enough to put all of you Narutards, Bleachtards, and Luffytards in your right place - anywhere but here. I detest stereotypical and predictable mainstream [read: crap] anime, and detest its sheep-minded gormless fans even more.
Which would explain why I like all the shows nobody else likes, like, hmm.
- Ghost in the Shell
- Last Exile
- Ergo Proxy
- Mushishi
- Wolf’s Rain
Just to name a few. I also deal in Electronically Distributed Illegally Subtitled Digital Pirated Copies of Modern Japanese Animation Productions. If you know where to find me, I can hook you up with some of the coolest shit you can’t find in your local black market.
